December 17, 2024 – The following story was shared with us from Featherlite customer Rebecca from Nova Scotia. We thank her for sharing this story and are thankful her and her horse are safe.

“I am just emailing to tell you a story about my 2006 Featherlite 8127. I was driving my horse home from the local vet college after an emergency, when I was involved in a head on collision. A van travelling in the opposite direction came right across the centerline and hit my GMC Sierra 2500 head on. By some miracle, both my horse and I are alive today.

He was untied in the front stall of the stock trailer and walked off the trailer without a single mark on him then hopped right on another trailer. It took three grown men to pry open the doors to get him out; they had the jaws of life on standby in case they needed them. The floor was buckled, but the sides were intact.

My first thought after impact was the safety of my horse. Witnesses rushed forward, and the first words out of my mouth were โ€œis my horse okay, please check on himโ€ over and over and over. He was eating from his hay bag.

A commercial hauler happened to be driving by and picked him up. He has told me he doesnโ€™t know how either one of us are alive. I credit my horse’s life to your trailer and your commitment to safety, design, and engineering. I am a civil engineer in the road construction industry, so I value all of these same principles at my core and understand their importance. I have had several people ask me what kind of trailer it was to have kept him safe, and I tell them I will never own anything other than a Featherlite.

I was rushed by ambulance to the nearest trauma centre where ER doctors and surgeons were able to save my foot when everyone on scene thought I would end up having to amputate.

I later learned that the occupants of the other vehicle were in the midst of transporting illegal cigarettes, pills and cocaine. They were uninsured and in the middle of a criminal act. They were pronounced deceased at the scene, something else I have to live with. I have a long battle ahead with my insurance company to replace the truck and trailer, but nothing could replace my life or my horse’s life.

Iโ€™ve attached a picture of me and my horse when we both arrived home after the accident. I was hoping to send you a picture of the trailer after impact but have not been able to bring myself to look at them due to the trauma and graphic nature of the accident.

I just wanted you to know, and I wanted to thank you for the work you do.”
